Liverpool Care Pathway for the Dying Patient (LCP)

About the LCP

The LCP Framework is a continous quality improvement framework for care of the dying irrespective of diagnosis or place of death.

The LCP affirms the vision of transferring the model of excellence for care of the dying from hospices into other healthcare settings.

'We have demonstrated a process that inspires, motivates and truly empowers the generic workforce in caring for their patients and families.'

'The LCP can be used not only to influence practice but fundamentally impact on the culture of care of the dying'

Professor John Ellershaw

Professor of Palliative Medicine, University of Liverpool

'All the careful details of the pathway are a salute to the enduring worth of an individual life such an ending can help those left behind to pick up the threads of memory and begin to move forward'

Dame Cicely Saunders

"How we care for the dying must surely be an indicator of how we care for all our sick and vulnerable patients. Care of the dying is urgent care; with only one opportunity to get it right to create a potential lasting memory for relatives and carers."
