Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute Liverpool (MCPCIL)

A partnership between the University of Liverpool, Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. Its main focus is to undertake research and service improvement of care for dying patients and their carers.

 

Examples of Previous Relevant Collective Experience

The Institute has previously been involved with a 5th Framework Programme collaboration “Promoting the Development and Integration of Palliative Care Mobile Support Teams in the Hospital with participants from UK, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Austria.

 

In addition, the Institute continues to take a leading role in several collaborative projects:

  • Recently awarded a grant to undertake 3 collaborative projects to implement the LCP into 125 care homes in the UK and to develop and disseminate education regarding care in the last days of life.
  • Undertaking a National Care of the Dying Audit - Hospitals (England) - a collaborative project between Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute Liverpool and The Royal College of Physicians with the backing of the Department of Health and the Marie Curie Cancer Care involving 118 hospitals in the UK
  • Collaborative work with Dutch colleagues to translate the LCP into Dutch and to compare patients who died on an LCP in a UK hospice and a Dutch hospital.
