Liverpool Care Pathway for the Dying Patient (LCP) and specialist areas

Neurological Conditions

The LCP Central Team at Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute Liverpool (MCPCIL) has been approached by the DH and our colleagues who work in this field across the UK to determine if the LCP is transferable in its current format to this patient cohort. To this end a national meeting of key stakeholders will be held in the spring of 2009.

On the 20th May 2009 the National LCP Workshop for Neurological Conditions  was held in Liverpool, coordinated by the LCP Central Team at the Institute supported by the Department of Health in collaboration with the National Council for Palliative care (NCPC).

The Workshop was extremely successful and associated work streams will be reported on in the very near future culminating in a final meeting in Spring 2010.

Dementia

The MCPCIL has a key programme in progress with BUPA to implement the LCP into BUPA Care Homes – this work will support future development of the LCP and dementia. Currently we do not have a definitive plan of work for this patient group.
